6 Ways Your Neighbors Can Help Sell Your Home

Home buyers do put stock in the guidance of a Grand Rapids real estate agent, but they also value the unedited insights of neighbors and friends. There are two main ways neighbors can help sell your home: in marketing your home to potential buyers, and later on in persuading someone who is already interested in the home.\


When you’re getting ready to sell your home, here are some tips on how neighbors can help:

  1. Make your real estate agent aware
    of block parties and regular get-togethers so they can be used as a selling
    point. Interested buyers like to imagine being welcomed to the community.

  2. Share your plans to sell your home
    on your neighborhood’s online message board or email list, and make sure to include
    a link to your listing. You could even ask your neighbors to share your listing
    on their Facebook pages.

  3. If an open house is scheduled , by
    all means let your neighbors know in advance. For one thing, it’s considerate
    to let neighbors know that there could be more cars than usual parked on the
    street, and it could buy some good will if you let them know in advance. Some
    neighbors may attend the open house just out of curiosity. But they may also
    mention it to friends, or they may notice a great feature of your home that
    will make them an advocate for your home. And a neighbor at the house may help
    promote the neighborhood to prospective buyers.

  4. If your neighbors are selling too ,
    suggest a joint open house, which may attract more potential buyers and show
    that neighbors get along.

  5. If you have any lingering disputes
    with neighbors, make an effort to settle them. Unfriendly neighbors can
    unintentionally sabotage a home sale, so if you have any unresolved issues with
    a neighbor, now is a good time to address the issue head-on.

  6. Make sure your real estate agent
    knows your neighbors’ strong points and can use those strengths when talking
    with potential buyers. Maybe you have helpful neighbors, friendly neighbors, or
    quiet neighbors. Perhaps you live on a golf course and share an interest in
    golf, or your neighborhood has a carpool to the elementary school. Good
    neighbors and a strong community can be almost as attractive to buyers as the
    home itself.
